Baked Sweet Potatoes - Skin On
Preheat oven to 400 degrees Fahrenheit (204 degrees Celsius). Wash sweet potatoes and place into preheated oven for 40 to 60 minutes, depending on size of sweet potatoes and the desired firmness. Place sweet potato on baking sheet or piece of aluminum foil to catch any sugary drippings during the baking process - otherwise they may burn on the bottom of your oven.
Roasted Sweet Potatoes
Preheat oven to 400 degrees Fahrenheit (204 degrees Celsius). Wash and peel sweet potatoes, cut sweet potatoes into chunks or wedges. Drizzle sweet potato chunks with a little olive oil. If desired, add diced onion or other vegetables and spices to the mix for additional flavor. Place on baking sheet and into the preheated oven for 40 to 60 minutes.
Grilled Sweet Potatoes
Preheat gas grill or prepare coals for medium heat. Wash sweet potatoes and cut into quarters or eights depending on your preference. Brush sweet potatoes with oil and sprinkle with salt, pepper, and any other herbs/spices you desire. Place sweet potato wedges on grill over medium heat, turn after 5 minutes, cover grill and cook to desired tenderness (10-20 minutes).
Boiled Sweet Potatoes
Wash sweet potatoes and cut into chunks. Place chunks in lightly salted boiling water. Boil until tender, drain water and mash if desired.
Steamed Sweet Potatoes
Wash sweet potatoes and cut into chunks. Place chunks in steamer basket over simmering water. Steam sweet potatoes covered, until tender. Remove chunks from pot and mash if desired.
Microwaved Sweet Potatoes
Wash sweet potatoes, do not dry, and prick skin with a fork in several places. Wrap sweet potato with a paper towel or two and place on a microwave-safe plate. Microwave on high for 8-10 minutes (depending on size of sweet potato). Remove from microwave, remove paper towels, cut sweet potato open.
Raw Sweet Potatoes
Wash and peel sweet potatoes. Cut sweet potatoes into strips. Raw sweet potatoes can be enjoyed with a variety of dipping sauces or by themselves!
